On 15 June, the National Heritage Board of Latvia is organising an open workshop and seminar on underwater archaeology for anyone interested in the subject. The event consists of several parts, including a lecture on underwater cultural heritage, a video montage about diving to wrecks, an exhibition called 'Tales from the Depths of the Sea', an archaeology sandbox and some practical work. Certified divers will also have the opportunity to go wreck diving in the Gulf of Riga.

Underwater Archaeology and Underwater Cultural Heritage in Latvia

A lecture by K.M. Molls, a specialist from the National Heritage Board, on underwater archaeological heritage in Latvia, how it is identified, and its future possibilities. The lecture will be followed by a discussion. All those interested in the subject are welcome to join. Afterwards, a video montage of shipwreck surveys will be shown.

'Tales from the Depths of the Sea'

This exhibition showcases photos taken by Latvian divers exploring shipwrecks at Cape Kolka in the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Riga. The exhibition was created by the NGO "Domesnes" to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Kolka Lighthouse.
