For the European Days of Archaeology the Royal Łazienki Museum in Warsaw (Muzeum Łazienki Królewskie w Warszawie) will present recent finds in the Museum Garden in the form of an outdoor exhibition. We also invite visitors of all ages to attend archaeological workshops bringing them closer to the archaeological work we do in the royal gardens of Łazienki.

Demonstration
Peacocks, bathtubs and pyramids - the work of an archaeologist in the Royal Łazienki Park
The workshops will introduce us to the fascinating world of archaeologists. During a short lecture, we will learn the secrets of their work on the premises of the 18th-century royal residence. We will talk about non-invasive research methods (georeferential, geophysical) and archaeological equipment. We will learn what secrets the royal residence hides, e.g. where Stanisław II August took a bath, and where the royal pyramid stood. In the second part of the workshops, we will go out into the field with archaeologists. Using specialist equipment for geophysical research, including a georadar, we will look for remains of the architecture of the former garden, hidden under the ground level.

Workshop
Flowers from the past - what do archaeologists seek in a historical garden?
Do archaeologists only dig for vessels, bones and old buildings? No! Sometimes the ground hides… seeds, pollen and other traces of historical gardens. Together we will go out into the field to see what an archaeologist can find. We will learn about the most famous garden discoveries - from the gardens in Pompeii to the baroque parks of European palaces. We will try to recognize seeds hidden in the ground ourselves and we will learn how such discoveries help recreate the appearance of old green spaces. Finally, we will create our own models of gardens, inspired by history, our imagination and the discoveries of scientists.
